LCD Day #6

Sorry my previous few posts are so short and uninteresting...I spent Friday-Sunday at Pitchfork Media Music Festival (clearly) and came home so exhausted each night that I could only muster up the energy to type up a brief summary of the day's events on my iPhone and text it to blogger. Seriously, I couldn't even find the strength to pull my laptop from my desk onto my lap. I know, lazy.

There's not too much to report for today. I didn't make it to Berry Chill (gasp) for the first time since I started the LCD endeavor, but I did manage to fit in a 9.5 mile run. My best friend Janis and her husband Derek are here for the next few days so I'll have to take them on more than one berry chill run this week.

All in all, week 1 of LCD has almost come to a close and I'm feeling pretty confident I have this whole better lifestyle thing down. True, it's only been a week. I'm still waiting to hear from the nutritionist about what I need to improve on—but when it comes to exercising and eating berry chill, I'm set.

We'll see how things change when the nutrition plan is added in...

Today consisted of a total of a 12.5 mile run, a " ballet body" class, and (of course) berry chill! Highlights: I am NOT graceful. I'm pretty sure I looked like I was doing an awkward robot dance in class but I wasn't alone. I've got guests coming tomorrow, so I'm busy cleaning, but I promise these posts will get longer again!

The Flaming Lips. Were. AMAZING!

Another long day at pitchfork, but I promise I'll write legit blogs after it's all over! Needless to say, this morning involved equinox gym & berry chill and the rest of the day was devoted to rocking out!

LCD Day #2 - Electric Boogaloo

I am EXHAUSTED.

It's only 11:30 PM so I'm still able to say I've made a blog per day so far—yay!

I started my day early with a 5 mile run at Equinox on N. Michigan Ave. I've seen some pretty ritzy gyms before, but Equinox is GORGEOUS. I made it past the high-end retail shops surrounding the stairs down to it (and past the smoothie bar and fitness clothing store outside of it) and hopped on a treadmill. This was no ordinary treadmill, however—this one could magically display and allow me to control the music on my iPhone.

You non-clumsy people out there may not think this is a big deal, but definitely made more than one embarrassingly and awkward treadmill misstep in my life while trying to change a song and ended up on the floor.

I didn't get to explore Equinox beyond the treadmills today due to my tight schedule before Pitchfork Music Fest, but I'm planning on hitting up their Abdominals class tomorrow morning before Pitchfork Day 2.

Of course I finished up my workout with some delicious chocolate covered strawberry flavored berry chill with raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries—I plan on ending all of my workouts there.

The rest of the day was filled with cleaning and prepping before Pitchfork, which I'll write about more later. I did rent a lovely ZipCar Scion named BBQ to get me there, and it didn't let me down.

So far, so good.

Good night!

LCD Day #1

Hello bloggers and blog-readers of the world. I'm finally joining you.

I've been hooked on social media for awhile—I have twitter, facebook, myspace, and linkedin accounts. I twitter from my iPhone, read blogs from google reader, and basically stalk around the internet like the 20something nerd I am. Until this moment however, I've been missing an essential social media mogul element: A blog.

Sure, I messed around with livejournal for bit in my formative teenage years, posting emo-y song lyrics and lamenting about my high school dramas, but I've never had a real purposeful, interesting (hopefully), routinely updated blog. That changes today.

Recently, I was chosen to be a part of ZipCar's Low Car Diet (press release). Basically, I'm attempting to better myself and the world around me by
1. not using a personal car for 30 days
2. visiting Equinox gym at least 3x a week
3. eating healthy with a nutrition plan from Dave Grotto (author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life)
4. eating delicious (and way healthy!) Berry Chill 5x a week—I know, it will be a challenge.

This has all happened at the perfect time for me. I lost my job about a month ago when my company dissolved, and with no motivation for getting up in the morning, I've stuck myself in a nice little rut. My original positive thought process ('Ok! Now I have some free time to be awesome!') has dwindled into 'I wonder how much I could sell my Carnegie Mellon MA for on eBay?' and 'How long can I play the Sims 3 before I start living vicariously through them?'—seriously, Sim Leigh already makes more money than I have in my entire life.

So, for the next 30 days (and hopefully beyond) I'll be keeping you posted on my progress. There's not much to say right now...I'm actually getting to ready to head downtown and pick up my Berry Chill and Equinox gym cards. I did receive a pretty sweet aluminum ZipCar water bottle at the kickoff event yesterday, and because of it I've decided to give myself an additional goal to drink more water. Now that I can't blame my lack of hydration on my potentially disease-causing nalgene bottle, I'm going to try to hit a water goal of 64oz per day.

Wish me luck!
